Friday Focus Goes To College: Senior Gymdog Chelsea Davis
Under the guidance of renowned World Champion and Olympic gymnast Kim Zmeskal, and her husband Chris Burdette, Chelsea Davis took the elite world of gymnastics by storm. Her club resume speaks for itself: Six-time qualifier to VISA National Championships, USA National Team Member for three years, 2010 World Silver Medalist, and a competitor at the 2008 Olympic Trials.
Davis began her collegiate career as a Bulldog in 2012. Throughout her three seasons with the Gymdogs, she has been accredited with numerous prestigious awards that are simply the result of her diligent work ethic and committed passion to the championship traditions at UGA. As she enters into her Senior year at the University, Davis is cherishing every moment she has left, and will always be remembered as one of the Bulldog Greats.

What is your favorite memory as a gymnast, so far?
My favorite memories are the moment I heard my name announced at Olympic trials, and the first time and every subsequent time I ran out of the tunnel at a home meet in Stegeman!
Have you ever done anything embarrassing in practice? Competition?
Umm who hasn't? But, last year in the locker room at SEC’s I was trying to take my leotard off and I accidentally pulled my underwear off as well. My teammates said my face was priceless.
If you had an off day from practice, how would you spend your free time?
Since coming to college, I feel like the most correct answer is study! However, I do enjoy laying at the pool, or snuggling up with a cup of coffee and a book depending on the season :)
What is your ideal, pre-competition meal?
Anything bland but I love a turkey sandwich before practice and meets!
What does gymnastics look like for you in the next year?
This "next" year is my last year. I'm filled with so many mixed emotions about it, my body is so ready to be done with this demanding sport, but my heart wishes I was invincible so I could keep up this dream life forever! But it is ending whether I'm ready or not, and I plan on embracing and living in every single moment of this year. Enjoying the rips, the sweat in my eyes and of course the limelight and glitter!
What were you like in high school?
I was so shy, and awkward and naive! The usual homeschool gymnast!
How would you describe your personality?
I'm quick and witty, sarcastic, and I think I'm funny lol.
What is your worst habit in the gym?
I would say my worst habit is having to tighten my grips after every single turn on bars. I know my club coach Chris Burdette would not approve but the college life has changed me ;)
In ten years, where do you see yourself and what will you be doing?
In 10 years I hope to be happily married lol (fingers crossed), and be working as a Physical Therapist helping people get back to the things they love!

How do you recover after a hard workout in the gym?
I always, always get some treatment and ice body parts that usually swell on me. Also, I love taking baths with eucalyptus salt and lighting some candles and listening to music. Also chocolate milk after practice is a must!
Pick one word to describe your attitude/personality in the gym.
Businesslike.
What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to overcome in gymnastics?
This is a tough question but I feel like for me the obvious answer is injuries. Just continually staying positive and trusting this is God’s plan for me, and trying to find the purpose behind each struggle. Finding the silver lining of every situation has definitely been a struggle after 9 surgeries, and many other serious injuries.
What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?
It really depends on my mood! I can always be into some hip hop, country, slow jams, and Christian music, just depending on my mood. Recently I love "My God is Stronger"!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to be able to dance like for real just be able to look cool anytime.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
I would pay off anything my parents need and then take the family on a vacation!
Besides gymnastics, what is your favorite sport to watch/play?
I love watching football as well as anything Georgia plays!
What song would you sing at Karaoke night?
Climax, by Usher. I can kill that one.
Do you have nicknames? If so, what are they?
My whole life all I've wanted was a consistent one and when I committed to come to Georgia I got “Cheda”! My entire Freshman year, however, I was called T-Swift, but now I'm really advocating for Cheda- so let's make it happen people!
If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?
I would just try to cherish the moments more, if possible, because they go so fast!
What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Probably shouldn't share, but it involved the ocean :p
What’s your favorite fast food chain?
Dunkin Donuts.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten?
Fried gator tail! Gotta get some of that in as a Georgia girl!
On a scale of 1-10 how funny would you say you are?
I'm like a 1.... Like dry quick humor... Not my thing.
..... Psychhhh I'm a trained assassin with some witty comments and some people think they're funny.... Other people think I’m just mean. But it's all out of love!
What is your favorite breakfast?
Omg, I loveeeee when I wake up on Christmas and my mom has made cinnamon rolls! Just reminds me of the holidays and family time! Also, I love a good ole southern biscuit, eggs and bacon!
