At the 2016 USOC Media Summit, Aly Raisman shared with Inside Gymnastics about her feelings on the difficult rules in the Code of Points that have led to more ankle injuries and increased pounding on the athletes' bodies.
Raisman is a veteran with numerous years on the U.S. National Team, so she can speak with credibility about the changes she has seen as a result of rule changes. Hear Aly's thoughts below, via Inside Gymnastics:
The Code of Points requires athletes to stick their floor passes rather than be able to lunge out of them with no deduction (like in the NCAA). Raisman notes that she has never seen so many taped ankles on the team, and that she herself tapes both of their ankles for every practice.
Additionally, there is a requirement to not stand in the corner with two feet, but instead begin each tumbling pass with a 'turn and run' type method, which adds another level of difficulty to floor routines.
Raisman hopes that they will modify the rules in the future to protect the athletes.
