Rene Lyst has been let go from her position as head coach of the Arizona State gymnastics team after two seasons with the Sun Devils. On March 4, she was put on indefinite administrative leave. Assistant coach Ralph Rosso led the team through the end of the season.
Under Lyst, Arizona State was 1-11 in duals and eighth in the Pac-12 in 2016 and 2-11 in duals and eighth in the Pac-12 in 2015. Before her two seasons at Arizona State, Lyst was co-head coach at Arkansas for 13 years.
"I have informed Dr. Rene Lyst that she will not be retained as the head gymnastics coach at Arizona State University. The decision was made under the 'termination without cause' provision of Coach Lyst’s contract. I want to thank Rene for her service to ASU, especially her commitment to academic excellence and community service. Effective immediately, Ralph Rosso will serve as interim head coach and we will conduct a national search for a new head coach that is the best fit for our program, university and community.”
