Japan has announced its team for the 2017 World Championships being held in Montreal, Canada, from October 2-8.

Asuka Teramoto

Sae Miyakawa
Aiko Sugihara
Mai Murakami

This group of gymnasts has great experience on a big stage, as all four were members of Japan's 2016 Rio Olympic team that took fourth in the team final. This year's World Championships competition does not have a team component, so each of these gymnasts will be vying for all-around and individual event titles.

Teramoto leads the team in international experience as a member of Japan's 2012 and 2016 Olympic teams. She also helped Japan to a fifth place finish at the 2015 World Championships and took ninth all-around.

Miyakawa is incredibly strong on floor. Along with the others, she will be exciting to watch in Montreal. At the 2015 World Championships, she just missed the podium with her fourth-place finish. Miyakawa's tumbling is stunning, including her full twisting double layout and a punch front layout to double front. Check out her winning routine from 2017 Japanese nationals:

As part of the 2016 Rio Olympic team and 2015 World Championships team, Sugihara will be a solid all-around contender.

Murakami is poised and powerful on floor with big potential in the all-around. She took sixth all-around at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow. In both 2016 and 2017, Murakami was the Japanese national all-around champion.
