The Florida Gators will play host to the Link to Pink meet Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m. against No. 9 Arkansas.
The Gators lost last Friday in Athens by a just tenth of a point (196.40-196.35) to the Georgia Gymdogs. Despite the loss, Florida took three event titles. Sophomore Alex McMurtry grabbed her fourth vault win of the season with a 9.90, and shared uneven bars title with Georgia’s Brandie Jay. Bridget Sloan scored a 9.875 and received her second consecutive event title on beam.
Florida took some hard hits during the second half of the meet. Sloan experienced some leg cramping in her final tumbling pass, and for the first time this season, the Gators had to drop her score. Freshman Ashley Hiller also took Bridgette Caquatto’s anchor spot in the floor lineup due to illness. Over on beam, the team struggled and had to count a fall after misses by Kennedy Baker and Alicia Boren.
Coach Jenny Rowland spoke about the Georgia meet in a recent media session - "Obviously, this meet could have been better. There are a lot of things we can learn from. There were some stellar performances following some mistakes. Bouncing back and rebounding is really what this sport is all about. You are allowed to have a mistake here and there. I thought there were some great responses in the performances following a miss.”

Arkansas is coming off a solid 196.150 performance against LSU last week. Erin Freier scored a season high 9.875 on bars, but it was Amanda Wellick that stole the show. Wellick led the team on floor with a 9.825, scored a solid 9.850 on beam, and had her 19th consecutive 9.85+ vault. The team is having one of its strongest years in recent history, and hope to continue their success against the Gators this Friday.
Amanda Wellick tumbles a nearly perfect double pike:
This top 10 battle on Friday will be a fun, energetic competition. Follow along with live updates from FloGymnastics - you don't want to miss this!
