NCAA Gymnastics Week 9: Five Can't-Miss Routines
Don't miss Chayse Capps and Sarah Finnegan on beam, Rachel Dickson and Elizabeth Price on bars and Britney Ward on vault in Week 9 action.
Check out these five routines you're not going to want to miss this weekend in NCAA gymnastics action.
Ward brings a unique vault to the Tigers' lineup with a front handspring front pike. She currently ranks eighth in the country on vault and has not scored below a 9.800 all season. In a lineup of Yurchenko-style vaults, Ward's vault is particularly refreshing. She can be counted on for her team to bring in a solid score, and the Tigers will continue to look at Ward as they push for the postseason.
Price been a solid score of 9.900 or better throughout the season for the Cardinal. Stanford has struggled mightily with putting up clean rotations, but Price has been consistent with all of her scores, hitting 9.9 until last weekend against Oregon State. She gets great amplitude on her release skills and finds her landing each week.
Capps has been a mainstay in the Sooners' beam lineup, where she is tied for second in the country right now. She has scored a 9.900 or better seven times this season. Capps has a steadiness on beam, and her front aerial to scale that she has occasionally performed this season is beautiful. Capps scored a 10.0 on beam last season, and as the senior's career winds down, don't be surprised to see one more.
While Dickson's collegiate career got off to a rocky start on balance beam, she's only gotten better on the uneven bars as the season has progressed. Dickson has the ability to bring in a big score--she has scored a 9.900 or better in three of her last five times out on bars. As Georgia continues its push toward regionals and nationals, the Gymdogs will look to Dickson to keep putting up great numbers.
Finnegan dazzles on balance beam with her triple wolf turn and solid, consistent routines. The rest of the skills in her routine are done effortlessly. She has racked up three straight 9.950s and has left many wondering when that 10.0 will come. She has just two scores this season below a 9.925. Look for the sophomore to keep striving toward perfection.
