Some of the world's top elite gymnasts are set to compete at the International Gymnix meet this weekend in Montreal, Canada. Entering its 26th year, the storied event has welcomed numerous internationally renowned gymnasts over its long history, including Aliya Mustafina, Jordyn Wieber, Dominique Dawes, Shawn Johnson and Carly Patterson, to name a few.

The competition is held over three days, starting with the Senior International Cup on Friday, March 10, followed by the Gymnix Challenge and the Junior International Cup on Saturday, March 11, and concluding with individual event finals on Sunday, March 12.

Friday, March 10

The Senior International Cup

The Senior International Cup kicks off at 6:30 PM EST on Friday, with the senior elite gymnasts clashing in a team competition. This meet will also serve as the qualification round for individuals to advance to the event finals, which take place on Sunday. 

The format of the event features four gymnasts per team, with all four competing each event and three scores counting. Eight individual gymnasts will qualify to each event final. 

The team competition includes squads from Australia, Canada, and Japan. There will also be a few gymnasts competing as individuals, including Oksana Chusovitina from Uzbekistan, Brittany Rogers and Rose-Kaying Woo from Canada, and Rianna Mizzen from Australia.

In addition to Canada's star individual competitors, its two teams boast some of the country's top gymnasts at the moment, including Shallon Olsen, who was a member of the Canadian Olympic team, and Jade Chrobok, who recently took the all-around title at Elite Canada last month.

Saturday, March 11

Gymnix Challenge

The Gymnix Challenge is next on the schedule, starting at 12:45 PM EST on Saturday. The Challenge is where international elite athletes will compete as individuals in order to qualify for Sunday's event finals. Once again, a total of eight athletes can qualify into each final. 

There are a total of 34 gymnasts competing in the Challenge session, representing Argentina, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the USA. There are six athletes competing from U.S., including Sydney Johnson-Scharpf, who recently took third place in the all-around at the Reykjavik International Games.

 Junior International Cup

Following the Gymnix Challenge, the Junior International Cup will take place at 6:30 PM EST. As with the senior competition, the juniors will be competing in teams of four, with four competing each event and three scores counting. This meet will also serve as the qualifying round for event finals the following day. 

The junior division has more teams entered than at the senior level and will see squads from Canada (which has three teams), Italy, Japan, Russia, and the USA vying for a title. Some of the top juniors from the USA, including Emma Malabuyo, Gabby Perea, Maile O'Keefe, and Sunisa Lee​, are being sent to the meet.

Sunday, March 12

Event Finals

The International Gymnix competition will conclude on Sunday with event finals at 1:30 PM EST, featuring qualifiers from all three previous competitions.
