The Italian Federation has confirmed USA's nominative roster for the 2017 City of Jesolo Trophy. USA lists 14 gymnasts total, eight seniors and six juniors, who are expected to compete April 1-2. FloGymnastics will be providing exclusive coverage of the competition and training leading up to the meet, starting on March 29. Note: nominative rosters may change before the competition.
Morgan Hurd, First State
Trinity Thomas, Prestige
Ashton Locklear, Everest
Alyona Shchennikova, 5280 Gymnastics
Abby Paulson, Twin City Twisters
Jordan Chiles, Naydenov
Jade Carey, Oasis
Emma Malabuyo, Texas Dreams
Gabby Perea, Legacy Elite
Adeline Kenlin, Iowa Gym-Nest
Sunisa Lee, Midwest Gymnastics Center
Olivia Dunne, ENA Paramus
In the first year of the new quad, we will see many new and rising faces at this competition. Five of USA's listed gymnasts will be making their international debuts: Shchennikova, Paulson, Carey, Kenlin, and Dunne. Out of the eight seniors, only Locklear has had international experience at the senior elite level prior to this year. Also of the eight seniors, five are first-year seniors- only Locklear, Paulson, and Carey were old enough to compete at the senior level last year.
On the juniors side, O'Keefe, Malabuyo, Perea, and Lee are coming off of a gold-medal-winning team performance at the 2017 International Gymnix. O'Keefe took the all-around title, Malabuyo won vault, and Perea won bars, beam, and floor at this competition. Watch our exclusive video coverage from Gymnix here.
Ragan Smith is notably missing from the roster and just recently won gold all-around at the American Cup. Coach Kim Zmeskal Burdette stated in an interview with us at Gymnix that they would be looking to give Smith a rest after going nonstop since the spring of 2016.
The USA National Team Training/Jesolo Selection Camp begins today, March 22 and ends March 26. The final roster will likely be confirmed at the conclusion of the camp. We will update this article if there are any changes to the roster.
