Shawn Johnson Announces a Comeback to Gymnastics

2008 Olympic medallist Shawn Johnson let it slip yesterday that she has decided to return to gymnastics training and make a go for a 2nd Olympics in 2012.
From the Des Moines Register:
“I was going to do a formal press conference and you know, announce it that way, in front of cameras and all that,” the gold-medal-winning gymnast would say later. “But you know, I got caught up in the moment. And what better way to do it than to inspire 8,000 kids?”
Shawn is still recovering from an ACL tear she suffered while skiing in Colorado with her family so aside from getting back into competition shape that will be another obstacle to overcome:
“I’m still coming back from my reconstructive knee surgery. I’m out about four months at the end of this month. So I’ve got two months left of recovery. But I’m on Day 4 of practice and back in the gym, so I’m loving it. You know, I got to go home last night and tell my mom, ‘I can do a ‘Giant’ again!’ You know, it’s just exciting, but I’ve got a ways to go. This is just a start. And nothing is a sure thing, but I’m going to give it as big and best an effort as I can.”
“I’ve always said gymnastics was my life, I’ll never live without it,” Johnson said. “I went two years trying to find an excuse to get away from it.
“But there’s something about it that just pulled me back. I’m a little kid at heart, and I can’t get away from it,” she said.
Personally I didn't expect for her to come back but am glad that she is. This will be great for the sport!
