LSU GYMNASTICS ADDS JESSIE JORDAN FOR 2012
BATON ROUGE -- – LSU gymnastics coach D-D Breaux announced Thursday that standout gymnast Jessie Jordan has enrolled early and will be eligible to compete as a freshman in the upcoming season.
A native of Manvel, Texas, Jordan graduated in early December from Manvel High School and began practice with the Tigers this week.
Jordan is a four-time Junior Olympics National qualifier, reaching nationals from 2007-09 and again in 2011.
“Jessie is a solid all-arounder who is consistent and very experienced having competed at the elite level,” Breaux said. “She is a young freshman on a young team, so it will be a challenge for her initially. We are really excited about her, and she adds immediate depth to this team.”
Prior to joining the Tigers, Jordan trained under coaches Deliana Vodenitcharova and Roumen Yordanov at Houston Gymnastics Club, and before that she trained under Tatiana Schegolkova at Zenith Elite Gymnastics Academy in McKinney, Texas.
At the 2011 Level 9-10 Texas State Championships, Jordan tied for second in the all-around with a 38.400 and also recorded a second-place finish on floor with a 9.775.
Jordan advanced to J.O. Nationals after tying for the all-around title at the 2011 Region 3 Championships with a 38.200 and finishing in the top five on each event, highlighted by second-place finishes on vault (9.725) and beam (9.600).
The daughter of John and Shela, Jordan placed in the top 10 in the all-around at J.O. Nationals in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and she also finished second on beam in 2008 and third on vault in 2009.
Jordan and the rest of the squad are gearing up for the season opener on Jan. 6 at the Cancun Classic. Live audio will be available for free in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net/live.
