Developing Quality Giants Is Necessary for Upper Level Routines
Having correct technique and mechanics in a giant swing is required for every high level skill on bars. Everything from the pirouette to the dismount requires you to perform a proper giant. To put it simply, the giant should be looked at as a key element when developing upper level skills because having correct (or poor) technique can greatly affect your routines.
We were lucky enough to consult with Enrique Trabanino, coach of Perfection Gymnastics and former World team member for the country of El Salvador. In his Gymnastike Gold videos, he shows the giant swing and breaks down (in detail) the exact skill progression he uses with his gymnasts to develop quality giants on bars.
Developing a Quality Giant on Bars with the Tap 3/4
In the first video in a series of giant progressions, Enrique Trabanino of Perfection Gymnastics shows us how to begin teaching the giant tap in the strap bar. As he points out, this drill takes time and patience to get the quality results you are looking for.
Developing a Quality Giant on Single Rail
In the second video in a series of giant progressions, Enrique Trabanino of Perfection Gymnastics shows us how to transition the strap bar 3/4 giant to the singe rail. Enrique talks about molding the giant and shows some issues that can occur during this progression.
