Price Retires from Elite

National Team member Elizabeth Price has retired from elite and plans to attend Stanford University this fall.

Price has had a great start to the 2014 season and recently won all-around and the Pacific Rim Championships as well as all-around at the AT&T American Cup. Price performs some of the most difficult skills and routines in the world including her Amanar and her floor routine that starts at a 6.0 and includes a tuck double double and a double layout.

Price was one of the top contenders in the running for a spot at the 2016 Olympics. However, she has decided that she is ready to move on from elite and is excited to begin NCAA gymnastics.

Release below via USAG:

2014 AT&T American Cup champion Elizabeth Price of Coopersburg, Pa./Parkettes Gymnastics, has retired from the U.S. Women’s National Team and will enroll at Stanford University for this fall, where she will compete on the school’s gymnastics squad.

"I have given this a lot of thought,” said Price. “Although the timing means that I might miss the opportunity to compete at the World Championships, I am ready to move on and have decided to enroll at Stanford University this fall.  I am proud of what I have accomplished and I will miss my teammates, but I am excited to go to Stanford and compete in collegiate gymnastics.”

“Elizabeth's achievements put her among the world’s best gymnasts, and we are going to miss having her on the national team,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics.  “Elizabeth has shown character and integrity in everything she has done, and I know that she will be a tremendous student and student/athlete at Stanford.  We wish her the best of success.”

Price just won the all-around, uneven bars and floor exercise titles at the 2014 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships, where she helped Team USA win the team gold.  She also just won the women’s International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around 2013-14 World Cup Series title, after winning the 2013 World Cup in Stuttgart, Germany, and 2014 AT&T American Cup and taking second at the 2013 World Cup in Glasgow, Scotland.  Price was an alternate for the 2012 Olympic Team.
