The next series in our highly acclaimed documentary Beyond the Routine will feature a senior national team member who is ready to shock the world. This gymnast is one of the most naturally talented gymnasts in the country and she throws skills you can’t even wrap your head around! We are excited to present Beyond the Routine with Mykayla Skinner.

 

Mykayla is known as a daredevil by everyone around her and she is fearless when it comes to learning new skills. Her new floor routine that she is looking to debut at the upcoming Secret US Classic has the highest difficulty value in the entire world. 

 

While Mykayla struggled with artistry and received low execution scores for her form, she has been working hard to improve this aspect of her gymnastics and it has shown the past year. She was selected to compete at the 2014 Jesolo Trophy where she surprised many, including, it seemed, Martha Karolyi. An uncharacteristic fall lead to Mykayla missing out on the all-around podium by one place but she made up for it in event finals where she placed first on both vault and floor. 

 

Mykayla's parents and coach Lisa Spini tell us about Mykayla as a young gymnast and when they realized her full potential.
