The XX Commonwealth Games have officially begun in Glasgow, with the artistic gymnastics competition set to kick off on Monday, July 28th! The competition schedule is as follows:
 
Mon. July 28th – Tues. July 29th: Team Finals & Individual Qualifications (M/W)
Wed. July 30th: All-Around Final (M/W)
Thur. July 31st: Event Finals (M- FX, PH, SR) (W- VT, UB)
Fri. August 1st: Event Finals (M- VT, PB, HB) (W- BB, FX)
 
While the Games as a whole include athletes from 71 nations and territories, only 20 will be represented in artistic gymnastics. These include Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, England, India, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Singapore, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and Wales.
 
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, both the men’s and women’s competitions were dominated by Australia, England, and Canada. These three teams will again look to challenge for medals, as will the Scottish team, who are competing in front of a home crowd.

Who to Watch:
On the men’s side, the English team is packed with veterans including four of the 2012 Olympic bronze medalists from Great Britain: Sam Oldham, Louis Smith, Kristian Thomas and Max Whitlock. They will be joined by five-time junior European Champion, 18 year-old Nile Wilson.

Team Scotland will be led by two Olympians, including 2012 bronze medal team member Daniel Purvis and 2008 Olympian Dan Keatings. The Scottish team will also include 2012 Junior European Champion Frank Baines, high bar bronze medallist in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games Adam Cox, and Liam Davie who represented Scotland at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.
 
Leading team Canada is two-time Olympian Nathan Gafuik, with teammates including 2013 World floor finalist Scott Morgan, 2013 Canadian pommel horse champion Anderson Loran, 2014 Pacific Rim team bronze medalist Kevin Lytwyn, and 2014 Canadian pommel horse champion Zachary Clay.
 
The Australian team is comprised of several up-and-coming faces including Kent Pieterse, Jack Rickards, Luke Wadsworth, and Sean O’Hara. The leader for this team will be 36-year-old NaoyaTsukahara, a three-time Olympian and Olympic gold medalist, whose veteran status will be an invaluable resource.

On the women’s side, England’s team will be led by 2008 Olympian and 2014 European uneven bars Champion Rebecca Downie. Joining her will be three of the 2014 European Silver medal winning team members – Claudia Fragapane, Ruby Harrold, and Hannah Whelan – with Kelly Simm taking the final position.
 
The English will face stiff competition from Australia, which is led by two-time Olympian and 2010 World floor champion Lauren Mitchell. Mitchell, who won four gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, is joined by 2014 Pacific Rim uneven bars bronze medalist Georgia-Rose Brown, 2012 Olympian Larrissa Miller, 2011 World Championship team member Mary-Anne Monckton, and 2008 Olympian Olivia Vivian.

Canada is also sending a strong team which includes Olympians Ellie Black and Victoria Moors, 2014 Pacific Rim team silver medalist Maegan Chant, 2014 Canadian AA silver medalist Isabela Onyshko, and Stefanie Merkle.
 
2014 Welsh all-around champion Raer Theaker leads the Welsh team, which also includes 2012 British Junior European team members Georgina Hockenhull and Angel Romaeo, 2014 British floor champion Lizzie Beddoe and Jessica Hogg.The Socttish team includes 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games member Emma White, Amy Regan, Scottish floor champion Carly Smith, Cara Kennedy, and Scottish beam champion Erin McLachlan.
