After the second and final day of competition, Jazmyn Foberg was crowned the U.S. Junior National Champion. She finished with a 114.95. Nia Dennis placed second with a 114.5, despite a few mistakes. Norah Flatley placed third all-around, having to count two falls on beam for a 112.55. Jordan Chiles finished fourth overall with a 111.6 and Alexis Vasquez was fifth with a 111.15. 

 

Day one proved to be rough for many juniors and we saw mistakes and falls from the top gymnasts. Heading into day two, Foberg had the lead followed by Emily Gaskins and Dennis. 

 

Gaskins started on vault with a solid Yurchenko double full for a 14.75. Dennis also started on vault where she performed a clean double twisting Yurchenko. Although she twisted right off the table and landed a little close, she still scored a 14.9. Ragan Smith performed one of the best Yurchenko double full vaults I’ve seen her do and earned a 14.8. Foberg started on bars with a clean routine including a Geinger, Tkatchev to Pak, and a beautiful stuck full in dismount for a 14.45. Megan Skaggs had a solid start on floor with a 14.2. Chow’s girls started on bars and Vasquez had a nice, hit routine for a 13.45. Nguyen followed with a beautiful routine with nice pirouetting for a 13.15. Flatley finished the bar rotation with a beautiful hit set for a 13.95.

 

Chiles started her meet on beam and had a few wobbles but stayed on the beam for a 14.15. Lauren Navarro started on floor with a nice full in opening pass and beautiful, expressive dance. Unfortunately she fell on her double pike and also went out of bounds. Olivia Trautman was also on floor where she opened with a big double layout, followed with a full in, and scored a 13.8.

Skaggs started the vault rotation with a nice DTY for a 15.15. Dennis impressed on bars with her sky high releases and redeemed herself from day one with a beautiful double layout dismount with a tiny hop for 14.65. Smith followed on bars where she had a couple mistakes including hitting her feet on the ground on her Pak but she fought hard and never came off the bars. Gaskins had a mistake on her very first skill on bars, falling over on a full pirouette. She then missed her Tkatchev but finished her routine with a nice double layout. 

 

Foberg kept her lead after the first rotation but on beam she had a shaky routine only scoring a 13.85. Vasquez had a beautiful beam routine with a layout layout series and a 2 1/2 dismount for a 14.7. Nguyen also had a gorgeous layout layout series and showed off her flexibility in her dance, scoring a 15.2. Soza had a solid beam routine until the dismount where she took a few steps back but she still scored a 14.35. Flatley’s fell on beam when her foot slipped off on her series and she ended up with a 14.25. Christina Desiderio was powerful on floor with a double layout and full in for a 14.45. Chiles also had a great floor routine scoring a 14.75. 

 

After rotation two, Dennis took the lead followed by Foberg and Skaggs. Flatley was in fourth even with her beam fall and Gaskins was tied for seventh even with two falls on bars. 

 

Chiles was on vault where she had a great Yurchenko double with just a tiny hop back for a 15.0. Desiderio also had a nice Yurchenko double for a 14.6. Skaggs was in third heading into this event but she fell on bars and had other minor mistakes, only scoring a 11.1.

 

Smith had a solid beam routine with a nice double pike dismount for a 14.55. Gaskins was also on beam where she looked to redeem herself after bars. She had minor wobbles but beautiful dance and she stayed on the beam scoring a 13.75. Dennis moved to beam and just like day one, she fell on her standing Arabian. She also did not perform her series, stopping after her handspring. She finished with a 13.05. 

 

Nguyen had a great floor routine with a triple twist opening pass scoring a 14.25. Flatley stepped out of bounds on her whip to triple but finished well scoring a 14.0. Foberg was also on floor, opened with a great double layout, and scored a 14.1. Vasquez followed on floor with a fun routine and great height on her tumbling for a 13.75

 

Heading into the final rotation, Foberg regained her lead followed by Dennis and Flatley was in third.

Foberg had a big Yuchenko double for a 14.95 and a 114.95, securing her first place finish. Flatley also finished her meet on vault with and clean, solid Yurchenko full earning a 13.8 and finishing with a 112.55 for third overall. Vasquez and Nguyen also had a solid Yurchenko fulls and both scored 13.7s. Vasquez finished with a 111.15 for fifth overall.

 

Chiles finished with a great routine on bars catching all of her releases moves and nearly sticking her dismount for a 13.95 and finished with a 116.6, placing fourth overall. 

 

Gaskins had a good floor routine with a big full in for a 14.3 and a 110.8 total score and sixth place overall. Dennis finished with an incredible floor routine nailing all of her passes and getting a huge applause. She scored a 15.1 and ended with a 114.5, placing her in second overall. Smith also finished on floor with a good routine for a 14.65 and a 110.75 for seventh place.
