Without the competition leo, elite gymnasts are simply young women who enjoy the normal aspects of a day to day life. We're all aware of the athletic acomplishments Maggie Nichols has achieved, but this US National Team member encompasses more than that. She's got an outgoing personality with a playful sense of humor, charming everyone she comes in contact with.


What is your favorite memory as a gymnast, so far? 
Traveling. I love to travel internationally with the team and be able to experience new competitions and meet new girls. Also this year at p&gs was one of my favorite moments also.

If you weren’t doing gymnastics, what would you be doing? Why? 
Dance, volleyball , because I love doing sports so if for sure be in one or even two, and I've always loved to dance and play volleyball. 

Have you ever done anything embarrassing in practice? Competition? 
Before my beam routine at nationals one year I thought that I was on the wrong side so I saluted and ran under the beam, then when I got on the beam I realized I ran to the wrong side so I was talking to my coach on the beam. 

If you had an off day from practice, how would you spend your free time? 
Definitely hang out with the family, then make sure I'm caught up on homework, then hang with friends (:

If you could be any other gymnast, who would you be? Why? 
Nastia so I could have her AMAZING bars and beam. 

Who is your childhood hero? 
Nastia and Shawn and Carly because I just remember watching them at the Olympics and big competitions wanting to be like them.

What is your ideal, pre-competition meal? 
Morning: oatmeal afternoon: sushi or any type of high protein that will give me energy 

Describe your pre-competition routine. 
Wake up, eat breakfast: usually oatmeal, practice, walk around outside for a bit so I don't get stiff, eat a light lunch (usually the comp warm up starts early ish) take a shower, get ready with my make up and hair, then have some sushi, then get pumped up with some music and I go! 

What does gymnastics look like for you in the next year? 
Lots and lots of training and getting new connections and to dominate at the competitions! 

How would you describe your personality? 
Shy at first but then when you get to know me I'm not shy one ounce, I love to joke around all the time and I love to laugh (: 

What is your worst habit in the gym? 
My legs on my twisting. 

In ten years, where do you see yourself and what will you be doing? 
Doing a job that I love, hopefully being a college coach, or a physical therapist, sports nutritional or a nurse. 

If you made a life bucket list, what would be your number one activity to accomplish? 
Go to the Olympics 

How do you recover after a hard workout in the gym? 
Eat protein & fish oils. Also drink lots of water, and take a jacuzzi 

Pick one word to describe your attitude/personality in the gym. 
Motivated 

What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to overcome in gymnastics? 
Injuries

Who inspires you to be a better person? Gymnast? 
My parents and or my coaches Mike Hunger and Eddie umphery 

What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod? 
Rather be 

If you could choose anyone, whom would you choose as a mentor? 
Eddie umphery 

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? 
Double double lay 

If you could witness any event past, present, or future, what would it be? 
Future : all Olympic Games 

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? 
Make sure my family was well on there feet and friends, then give to charity, then maybe like a cool house or something ! (: 

What is your biggest fear? 
Having regrets. 

What motivates you to work hard in and out of the gym? 
Myself. I push myself to be the best. I watch inspirational videos and read quotes that get me motivated.

What is your proudest accomplishment? 
All international assignments. And p&gs this year (: 

What makes you laugh the most? 
My friends and family. 

Besides gymnastics, what is your favorite sport to watch/play? 
Watch: football, hockey play: dance, basketball, baseball, volleyball I like doing all sports 

What song would you sing at Karaoke night? 
Rather be! 

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? 
Oatmeal haha 

Do you have nicknames? If so, what are they? 
Swaggie maggie or mags got swag (: 

How would your friends describe you? 
Crazy, or they always say I'm blonde on the inside hahha  

Are you a clean and organized, or messy person? 
Organized! 

What three items would you take with you on a deserted island? 
Computer, weapon (for scary animals ), food & water 

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten? 
Octopus in Japan 

Are you an introvert or extrovert? 
Extrovert I'm not shy at all haha 

On a scale of 1-10 how funny would you say you are? 
12! ;)
