Kyla Ross Heads into Worlds with Minor Injury

In our recap from podium training yesterday, we noted that Kyla Ross had her hip flexor and hamstring taped, but still got through training and hit every one of her full sets.

In an article by Inside Gymnastics, Ross explained that she “kind of overstreched it doing a few leaps” when she was training at the National Team Training Center before heading to Nanning. She said the injured area was her “hip, groin, and hamstring - that whole area.” She noted that the team doctor Larry Nassar has been working hard to make sure she is strong and ready to go for competition. “I’ve been in the training room more than my actual room” Ross said.

After podium training, Ross said “it felt pretty good today. I was glad I was able to do all four events. That was really important this week - to be able to peak at the right time. I was happy to be able to hit all the events pretty strong.”

Despite this minor injury, Ross looks to be competing all-around in qualifications on October 5. One of Ross's strengths is her consistency and strong performances under pressure and it looks like she will still be able to lead team USA even when she is not at 100%.
