Sensational Bars Rotation Pushes China To Second Place
China began their qualification competition on the uneven bars, where they took the arena by storm. Despite suffering a fall on the first routine of the day, the remainder of the gymnasts fought through adversity to nail an exceptional rotation. The team is currently standing in second place, behind the United States, after Subdivision 8.
Bars
Siyi Chen in the lead off position for China on their first event. Begins a beautiful routine with a full to el half, clean Tkatchev to a blind turn where she seemed to be short, tired to save it and came down to hips on the bar. Re-casted to continue the routine, went for her Pak to the low bar, where she slipped off the bar and fell for a second time. 11.458 to start the event.
Chunsong Shang up second, looking to comeback from the first mistake and hit her routine. Begins with a free hip piked Tkatchev, Pak, Shposh to uprise half, blind full to el grip to full- absolutely incredible pirouetting skills throughout the routine. Impeccable form on each of her bar elements. Puts of a big 14.558.
Huidan Hang starts with an inside stalder full to Stalder Shaposh Pak to Stalder Maloney half. Like her teammate before, Hang really exemplifies elite bar work with her exquisite technique and pirouetting combinations. Finishes with a 15.333 and is now the current bars leader!
Yao Jinnan in the fourth spot for China. Komova to Pak to stalder Maloney half, blind full to el grip to full to el grip to full- each of these Chinese gymnasts have incredible turning combinations. Jinnan gets great height on her releases, and has nearly perfect technique throughout the set. Scores a 15.666! Jinnan is the new leader on uneven bars!
Tan Jiaxin in the anchor position on bars. Begins with a huge Hindorf to Pak- gets incredible height on that release and has perfect form throughout the skill. Maloney to Gienger, blind to full to el grip to full and a half to Tkatchev. Looking strong throughout this routine, and finishes with a layout double double dismount! Ends the event with a 15.333.
After the first event, China is in the lead with 60.890. Their skillfulness on the uneven bars is absolutely impeccable and nearly perfectly done. The Chinese are commonly known for their intricate pirouetting combinations, and this Worlds team surpassed that expectation.
Beam
Siyi Chen is up to lead the Chinese on beam. Begins with a flawless front pike. Takes a long pause before attempting her roundoff layout combination, lands with a small wobble. Side aerial, big wobble as she lands and nearly falls off the beam. She manages to finish the routine with a few small balance checks, and a step on her triple twist dismount. 13.533.
Chunsong masters her beam set for China. Starts off with a big two back handspring to layout two feet, stuck landing. Her switch half leap goes way past the requirement of 180 degrees, shows off nice flexibility. Ends the routine with a tight triple twist dismount, small hop on the landing. Scores a 14.633.
Jinnan up third on the event. Front aerial to sheep jump, has small check on the landing. two back handsprings to layout two feet. Stuck cold. Has a huge switch ring that hows her beautiful flexibility. Finishes with a huge double pike, STUCK! With a 6.2 level of difficulty, she scores a 14.900, taking second place.
Huidan starts her routine with a breathtaking straddle press to handstand, she has incredible flexibility and a classic gymnastics line that she showcases beautifully with her choreography. Front aerial to sheep jump, back handspring back tuck, has a big balance check but stays on the beam. Has a few wobbles throughout the routine and finishes with a roundoff 2.5 twist dismount, her foot seemed to slip off the end of the beam on her round off. Stucl landing! 14.300.
Bai Yawen makes her World debut as the anchor on beam for China. The sixteen year old starts with a Yang Bo, stuck beautifully, Switch ring, round off layout two feet performed perfectly, front aerial sheep jump. Has a big balance check on her side aerial but stays on the event. Huge double pike dismount! 14.800.
After two events, China remains in the lead with a 119.523 total score.
Floor
Siyi up first on the third event. First pass- triple twist to punch front, very low landing the twist and had trouble punching into the second flip. Full in and her double pike land low as well with issues controlling the landings. 12.533 from a 5.7 level of difficulty.
Jinnan up second. Starts with a big double pike, one step backwards on the landing. 1.5 twist through to 2.5 twists, stuck landing! Jinnan is really selling this performance with beautiful choreography and dance elements. Under-rotated her triple twist and nearly fell. Double tuck last pass, didn’t quite make it around and put her hands down. 12.633.
Shang up next, having to perform once again after a fall. Opens with an incredible first pass- 1.5 through to triple twist punch front! Takes a small step on her full in, beautiful triple turn. Finishes the routine with a double pike dismount, small step, but a hit routine for China! 13.966 with a 6.00 level of difficulty.
Jiaxin opens with a 1.5 through to triple twist- chest was a little low on the landing and she took a small hop to the side. Triple turn was not completed all the way around. Double pike has a small hop on the landing, and she ends with a double tuck. 5.6 level of difficulty, and she finishes with a 13.600.
Yawen to anchor China on floor. Starts with a beautiful double turn with her leg held up. First pass- 2.5 with a step sideways on the landing. Second pass, her double tuck takes a few steps backwards on the landing. She showcases her gorgeous lines throughout her floor dance with dynamic choreography. Double tuck dismount takes multiple steps forward as she under rotates the pass. 12.766.
Vault
Shang opens vault with a Yurchenko full. Nicely done, but low level of difficulty, 5.00. Scores a 13.966.
Siyi with a Yurchenko double full, very low landing with a big step forward over the line. Scores a 14.333 from a 5.800 level of difficulty.
Jinnan with another Yurchenko double full. Had a great line in the air and completed the twist all the way around. She fought for a stick in the landing, looked like she needed to step forward, so she covered it as she saluted to the judge. 14.833.
Jiaxin with a beautifully done double twisting Yurchenko. Great height off the horse and a tight twist in the air. 15.133, and she has the highest vault score of her team, so far.
Yawen ends the rotation with a Yurchenko full. She didn’t get much spring off the horse, and her full twist was slightly low. Lands with her chest down and takes a step forward. Scores a 13.666.
The Chinese team ends with a total score of 230.753, second place behind Team USA.
