2015 NCAA Gymnastics Has Begun
The wait is finally over! NCAA gymnastics has returned and it’s sure to be an exciting season. While there were two competitions last weekend, the majority of college teams will begin their 2015 campaigns this weekend.
This past Saturday, Central Michigan won their home opener against University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. On Sunday, California- Berkeley won the NorCal Classic against Stanford, Sacramento State, and San Jose State. While there were no official rankings after week one, California- Berkeley posted the highest score of the season so far with a 195.175.
This weekend, there are some exciting match-ups and every team will be fighting to make a statement as they begin their season.
Number one ranked Florida will be seeking their third consecutive National Championship title this year and they will begin their season on the road this Sunday in Muncie, Indiana at Ball State University. The Gators have a strong incoming freshman class including national team member Kennedy Baker, as well as a strong returning team including 2013 NCAA all-around champion Bridget Sloan.
2014 Co-NCAA Champions Oklahoma open their season at home, welcoming 13th ranked Arkansas on Friday. The Sooners have a deep team this year and some stellar freshman to replace the graduating seniors they lost last year. One of the most highly anticipated freshman is national team member Brenna Dowell.
Another highly anticipated freshman is Elizabeth Price of Stanford. Price and the Cardinal competed this past weekend in the NorCal Classic but the team struggled during the meet and only posted a 193.45.
