The first of two Big Five Meets took place today in Nebraska.  The Fighting Illini were victorious with a 196.05 over Nebraska 196.00.  Nebraska started the competition in the hole with having to count a fall on bars.  The Cornhuskers didn’t give up and battled back to a strong second place finish. In dramatic fashion Ohio State and Michigan State tied for third with a 195.250.  With the top three teams qualifying to the evening session to next week’s Big Ten Championship, the tie had to be broken!  The tie went to Ohio State as their team score was higher when adding in the sixth score.  Michigan State would then finish as the fourth place team, followed by Maryland.  Both MSU and Maryland will be in the afternoon session at the Big Ten Championships next weekend.  Senior, Jessie DeZiel (Nebraska) won the all-around with a 39.425.

Penn State led through the whole competition, until the last event when Michigan put up a season best 49.525 on vault.  Michigan won the competition with a 197.00 to stay undefeated in the Big Ten.  With the win tonight, Michigan won the regular season title.  Penn State was impressive all night placing second with a 196.65.  The Nittany Lions avoided counting any mistakes tonight.  Minnesota started off on a tough note having to count a fall on beam.  Lindsay Mable had an uncharacteristic fall on beam taking her out of the all-around title.  Iowa had an outstanding meet placing fourth with a 196.425 and just missing the evening session by .025.  Rutgers finished fifth with a 194.15.  Nicole Artz (Michigan) won the all-around with a 39.55.
