In the first test of the 2015 season, the US Junior National Team proved more than capable of handling competition pressure. The Americans easily secured a first place finish with a 229.1 in the Jesolo Trophy Junior Team Final. Laurie Hernandez, Norah Flatley, and Jazmyn Foberg headlined the team finishing first, second, and third respectively.
Hernandez was especially delighted to debut her sensational new floor routine. Known for her expressive choreography, Hernandez displayed strong tumbling to match giving her the complete package. Hernandez qualifies to the floor final ranked first with American Norah Flatley advancing as well.
Sliding into second place was Canada with a 222.45. With a stand out Yurchenko double twist, Rose-Kaying Woo gave the Canadians the momentum to carry out strong performances throughout the day’s event. While truly a team effort, Woo received the additional honor of placing fourth in the all around competition, the highest of any non-US competitor.
The Italian squad finished with the bronze notching a 208.15 team score.
With gold medals still glimmering around their necks, the US Junior Team now shifts their focus to the Event Finals taking place tomorrow, Sunday, March 29, 2015.
