Yao Jinnan Likely To Miss World Championships This Year

2012 Chinese Olympian Yao Jinnan will most likely miss out on the World Championships this year due to injury, according to Sports Sina. Jinnan recently underwent shoulder surgery and is currently in the recovery process.

Jinnan traveled to the United States for her shoulder surgery and coach Wang Qunce said that surgery went well and recovery is going better than expected. However, Jinnan, the reigning Chinese National Champion, will miss out on the National Championships this year, which are currently taking place now in Fuzhou, China. Not competing in the Championships will affect Jinnan's selection for World Championships which will be held October in Glasgow, Scotland.

Qunce said that they have accepted that Jinnan will probably miss out on worlds in order to be healthy and prepare for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Qunce also said the gymnasts expected to compete for China at Worlds this year include Huang Huidan, Wang Yan, Mao Yi, and Fan Yi Lin

Jinnan competed at the 2014 World Championships where China placed second as a team and Jinnan placed fifth all-around, first on bars, and eighth on beam. Jinnan was on China’s 2012 Olympic team that placed fourth overall. Jinnan also placed fourth individually on bars at those Olympics.
