TeamUSA.org sat down with Rhonda Faehn, who recently became the new senior vice president of the USA Gymnastics women’s program in May after coaching the Florida Gators for 14 years. Faehn gives insight into her new role, and the big transition she has made from coaching collegiate gymnastics to being involved in the elite scene. Currently, Faehn attends the national team camps, helps organize many of the events, and oversees the rest of the gymnastics in the country. 

As a former elite gymnast who was personally coached by Martha (and Bela) for almost four years, the transition to working alongside the esteemed gymnastics legend has been quite smooth for Faehn. She grew up in Minnesota and moved away to train with the Karolyis when she was 14 years old. Her time as a gymnast and history with the Karolyis gives her a unique perspective that is allowing her to be the person Martha counts on for support. Faehn will not be part of the selection committee for competitions such as Worlds and the Olympics, but rather the one who ensures the proper procedure is followed and that “everything has gone about the right way.”

Feahn is very excited about her new role, saying “…I’ve always had a passion for elite gymnastics. I’ve always considered myself a gymnastics nerd; I just could never get enough of it.”
