With many of the nation’s top gymnasts signing their National Letters of Intent last week, the future teams of many schools are looking more promising than ever. The gymnasts who signed their NLIs will most likely be graduating in the spring of 2016 and will join their college team in the fall of 2016.

There is no doubt that every team has signed top-notch gymnasts to be part of their programs, but a few schools seem to have struck gold with the talent they are bringing in. Two standout recruiting classes for 2016-2017 include Florida and Oklahoma. Both of these classes are stacked with impressive level 10s, former elites and even several current elites.

Florida’s four signees, Alyssa Baumann, Maegan Chant, Rachel Gowey, and Amelia Hundley are all current senior elite gymnasts. Baumann, Gowey and Hundley competed at this year’s P&G Championships and were also all named to the 2015 Worlds Training Squad. Baumann was selected as a non-traveling alternate. Chant is a Canadian elite gymnast and competed at the 2015 Pan Am Games where she helped Canada to a silver medal. These athletes may not be the top Rio contenders, but they will surely have their chance to shine while competing for the Florida Gators.

Amelia Hundley: CGA - No Wobble, No Break

Maegan Chant: Canada Rising

Oklahoma’s four signees include Jade DeGouviea, Alex Marks, Maggie Nichols, and Brehanna Showers. Of course, Nichols will be a supreme force for the Sooners as a member of the 2015 golden U.S. World Championships team. If Nichols qualifies for Rio, she will be coming off competing at the Olympics right as she heads into her freshman year at Oklahoma. Another strong commit, Degouviea, took third all-around this past season at JO Nationals with a 38.225. She also competed in a couple elite qualifiers this year including the May elite qualifier at the Karolyi Ranch. Showers took second all-around at 2013 JO Nationals and fourth all-around at the 2014 Nastia Liukin Cup. Marks tallied a 9.750 on vault at Regionals this year and totaled a 37.825 all-around for ninth place.

Number two ranked Utah also has big talent joining them next year. One of Utah’s commits Missy Reinstadtler took 8th all-around at the 2014 Secret Classic and then had a very successful 2015 season in level 10, in which she finished 9th AA at Nationals.

Watch Missy in action at this year’s Utah Camp, as she showed off big skills including her Yurchenko 1 1/2, outstanding floor tumbling, bar releases, and unique beam combinations.

Utah’s other signee, Kim Tessen, took ninth all-around at 2015 JO Nationals with a 37.600, which included sixth place finishes on beam and floor with a 9.550 and 9.575 respectively.

Additionally, Alabama’s strong recruiting class is bolstered by senior elite Maddie Desch, who helped USA to a first place finish at the 2015 Pan Am Games and brought home a silver in the all-around as well.
