Eythora Thorsdottir To Make 2016 Debut At Gymnix
Eythora Thorsdottir is a Dutch gymnast known for her exquisite and expressive gymnastics. She was on the Netherlands' 2015 World Championships team where they made history qualifying a team to the Olympics for the first time since 1976. Thorsdottir is positioned to be a strong contributor to the Dutch team this Olympic year and will start 2016 with the International Gymnix competition in Montreal, Quebec. We will be LIVE streaming podium training and all three days of competition at Gymnix so make sure to sign up for FloPRO to catch all the action.

FloGymnastics: What are you most looking forward to about Gymnix?
Thorsdottir: First of all am I very excited that it is in Canada. That's the first time in my life that I'm traveling so far for a gymnastics competition. And I guess I'm just looking forward to competing internationally again.

What are your goals for the meet?
My goal is just to get in the competition rhythm again. And of course I hope to show my performances at my best.

What new skills or combos have you added in the past few months?
I have been working on some new combos on beam that hopefully will make my beam routine more secure and stabel. I also have been working on my vault (Yurchenko double) and on floor (Mouchina) as you can see on my Instagram . For this meet I will only try my new combos. Vault and floor are not competition ready yet but I'm getting there.

Do you have a new floor routine or will you get a new one this year?
Well my trainer and I have been talking about that. We're not totally sure whether I will get a new one or not. But I think I will keep the same as last year.

What is your favorite event and why?
I think both floor and beam. But if I really had to pick one, I'd pick floor because I love to perform and show all my emotions in my floor routine.

What is your favorite skill to compete?
I actually don't know there are so many to choose from ;)

What is your favorite part about competing?
Just being able to show the people what you can do. And to perform it as beautifully as possible.

You look so comfortable on the beam, do you get nervous?
Well haha that's all just an illusion ;) I'm always very nervous the moment before every routine in the competition. Especially on beam because you can be so shaky on that thing. But I'm very glad that you don't see it in my performance!!

What does Gymnix mean for you as you prepare for Rio?
It's my first competition again. So it's very good as preparation for Rio in the way that I can get the competition feeling again and also I get to experience my first jet lag. It' good to know how that will effect me, so I can prepare even better for Rio.

What will the next few month look like for you in terms of competitions, training, and preparations for Rio?
After Gymnix I will have one competition in Stuttgart [at the] end of March. And after that, and in between, I hope to be able to get those new element in and to make my routines more stable and clean.

What was your favorite memory from the 2015 World Championships?
The moment that my team and I looked at the scoreboard and discovered that we made the top 8. That was the best feeling ever! Because we made history for our country.

Looking back now, what was the biggest takeaway you learned from that meet?
So many little things, because it was my first Worlds. But I think one thing stood out. That if we work as a team the individual also benefits. If you know what I mean. So the team spirit is very important because that's what got us in 8th place.
