Recap: George Washington University Wins 2017 Metroplex Challenge
FloGymnastics was live on Saturday for the 2017 NCAA Metroplex Challenge that featured Central Michigan, Bowling Green, George Washington and San Jose State.
The No. 18 George Washington women's gymnastics team continued its unbeaten start to the season by sweeping the four-team MetroPlex Challenge with a season-best 196.15 in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday night. Trailing the Colonials' dominant performance at the Fort Worth Convention Center was Central Michigan in second with a 194.125, San Jose State in third with a 193.65, and Bowling Green in fourth with a 193.550.
George Washington (8-0) captured all three podium spots in the all-around and won or shared five additional titles on three events. Junior Cami Drouin-Allaire led the Colonials' charge by winning the all-around title for the second straight week with a season-high tying mark of 39.20.

George Washington (8-0) captured all three podium spots in the all-around and won or shared five additional titles on three events. Junior Cami Drouin-Allaire led the Colonials' charge by winning the all-around title for the second straight week with a season-high tying mark of 39.20.
1. George Washington (196.15)
The Colonials started the meet on floor where they posted a solid 48.85, led by freshman Cydney Crasa with a 9.825. Paced by Drouin-Allaire's title-winning 9.85 on vault, George Washington took the lead at the halfway point with a 48.825 in the event. The Colonials turned it up on a notch on bars with a 49.150 behind Chelsea Raineri and Liz Pfeiler, who shared the bar title after both scoring 9.85. In their final rotation, George Washington posted its meet best of 49.325 on beam and did not count a score lower than 9.85. Drouin-Allaire, Pfeiler, and junior Jillian Winstanley finished in a three-way tie for the title with impressive scores of 9.875. Led by Drouin-Allaire's 39.20, GW also swept the all-around podium with senior Alex DeMoura in second with a 39.05 and Winstanley in third with a 38.725.Pfeiler's beautiful beam routine:
2. Central Michigan (194.125)
Behind Caroline Fitzpatrick's 48.75 on beam, the Chippewas were able to overcome an early fall and finished strong with a 48.75. On floor, Central Michigan showed solid routines despite some trouble staying inbounds on tumbling and tallied a 48.375. The Chippewas posted two scores of 9.8 or higher in their vault rotation for a team total of 48.85, their highest of the competition. Casey Janowicz led the way on bars with her 9.825 to boost CMU to a 48.150. The Chippewas finished second in the competition with a 194.125 along with picking up a win over Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green.Watch Fitzpatrick's stellar beam routine:
3. San Jose State (193.650)
The Spartans opened the meet on bars with a 48.15 after having to count a fall. Rachel Heini came in big for San Jose State after two falls to post an impressive 9.825. The Spartans also had some falls on beam and scored a 47.70 but rebounded with a huge 49.05 on floor to sweep the top three places. Taylor Chan posted a team-high 9.85 followed by Kaitlin Won with a 9.825. San Jose State, which finished in third with a team score of 193.650, closed the meet by posting a 48.750 behind six strong vaults.Watch Chan's winning floor routine:
4. Bowling Green (193.55)
The Falcons began the meet on vault and posted six strong vaults for their highest event score of the night with a 48.875. Despite having to count two falls en route to a 47.20 on bars, junior Laura Mitchell tied for the event title by posting a 9.850. Bowling Green rebounded on beam with a 48.725, led by Jovannah East's 9.825. The Falcons closed the competition with a solid 48.750 on floor and tallied 193.55 overall for a fourth-place finish.Watch Mitchell's winning bar routine:
