Lindenwood Hosts First Home Meet, Falls to SEMO

The Lindenwood women's gymnastics team hosted Southeast Missouri in the first home meet in program history on Friday evening at Hyland Arena. The Lady Lions turned in a season-high team score of 188.625 while Southeast Missouri won the competition with a 192.200.   Starting off on the vault, the Lady Lions were led by junior Emily Turik's 9.475. Alicia Floyd added a 9.425 and Dani Fumagalli recorded a 9.400. Lindenwood turned in a team score of 46.925. The Redhawks scored a 48.025 on the vault led by Emma Garrett and Megan Fosnow's 9.675.   In what has proven to be her strongest event, Turik continued to lead the Lady Lions as she produced a 9.700 on the bars. Courtney Heise added a 9.675 and Lauren Cartmellhad a 9.525 to contribute to Lindenwood's season-high score of 47.800. Southeast Missouri's Taryn Vanderpool had the high score of the night on the bars with a 9.800, contributing to a team-score of 48.525.   Lindenwood struggled on the beam, scoring a 46.375 as a team. Turik once again led the Lady Lions with a 9.475.   Behind the lead of Rachel Zabawa, the Lady Lions scored a 47.525 on the floor exercise, just .425 points behind Southeast Missouri. Zabawa won the floor with a score of 9.750. Southeast Missouri recorded a team-score of 47.950 led by Garrett with a 9.725.   Turik led the Lady Lions on the all-around with a score of 37.850. Cartmell recorded a 37.650. Southeast Missouri's Fosnow and Vanderpool each recorded a 38.525 to win the all-around.   Lindenwood falls to 0-4 on the season. The Lady Lions will travel to Towson on January 26 for a competition against Towson, Bridgeport, and Ursinus. The meet is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. central time.

After failing to qualify for Regionals and their lackluster 2012 finish at 56th, their first finish outside the top 40 for the first time since 2007, the Redhawks are ready for action in their season opener tonight against the Lindenwood Lions. The Lions, after improving their team score by nearly two points this past weekend against Illinois State scoring 187.800 from their season opening score of 185.925 at tri-meet against No. 27 Penn State and No. 11 Denver are searching for their first victory of the season. But Lindenwood, a rookie team, is not without experience. This team is lined with Regional and National Qualifiers and Champions. Lauren Cartmell and Alicia Floyd anchor this freshman team in the search for victory.
