Oklahoma wins NCAA Qualifier #1, Moves onto NCAA Team Finals

The first of two NCAA Men's Qualifing Sessions is in the books. #1 ranked Oklahoma won session one with a 440.00 team score. Along with the Sooners, Stanford (433.550), and Illinois (432.85) have advanced to Friday's Team Finals. In the All Around, Akash Modi took top spot despite troubles high bar to score 87.45. Donothan Bailey of Cal sits in 2nd with a 86.25 with C.J. Maestas of Illinois 3rd with 86.15.
Stanford and Oklahoma were tops in all 6 events with Cardinal gymnasts currently leading 4 of the 6 events. The highlight routines from the session one include Sean Senters (Stanford) 15.45 on floor and Michael Reid (Oklahoma) 15.2 on pommel horse. In the rings competition, we were treated to some solid strength skills with Michael Squires of OU finishing topping the field so far with a big 15.80.
There were some nice vaults in the competition with a mix of Kaz 1 1/2 and Yurchenko 2 1/2 .
In the P-bar and HB competition, Stanford took the top spots.

2014 Men's NCAA Championships - Event Finals
Michigan Wolverine Sam Mikulak continued his NCAA dominance and won the parallel bars title at the NCAA Championships, where his score of 15.875 tied an NCAA record. Michigan, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Stanford all had great event finals, earning multiple medals on multiple events.
USA Olympic and World team member Sam Mikulak of Michigan stole the show once again in the final session of the 2014 NCAA men's Championships, the individual event finals. Just one day after capturing his second consecutive NCAA all around and team title with the Wolverines, Mikulak won the seventh NCAA individual event title of his career.
In his final competition as a Wolverine, Mikulak clinched gold on the parallel bars with a 15.875. With this victory, Mikulak ends his collegiate career tied for the most individual title wins in a career. In total, Mikulak will leave Michigan with 17 All-American honors.
Mikulak stuck his double pike dismount and was untouchable. USA National team member Akash Modi of Stanford was second on parallel bars with a 15.600 while Michigan’s Syque Caesar finished in 3rd with a 15.325.
Alec Robin of the University of Oklahoma impressed with two national titles, the first of his career. In the floor final, Robin stuck his triple twist dismount to edge out Chandler Eggleston of Illinois, 15.425 to 15.400. Fellow Illini C.J. Maestas was third.
Robin also clinched the vault title with a stuck Kasamatsu 1.5. He once again beat out Eggleston by just a quarter of a tenth, 15.250 to 15.225. Sean Senters of Stanford picked up the bronze.
Minnesota’s Ellis Mannon won the pommel horse with a difficult routine, totaling a 15.425. Michael Reid of Oklahoma scored 15.175 for second. Modi of Stanford was third.
Michael Squires of Oklahoma defended his NCAA still rings title from last season with a 15.80. Maestas was close behind in second with 15.725, and Ryan Ponce of Springfield College earned a 15.550 for third.
Finally, Jordan Valdez of Illinois won the high bar final with a 15.525. Ohio State University’s Jake Martin was second, posting a 15.475. USA national team member Sean Melton of Ohio State finished third with a 15.225.
