Chemnitz: Recap and Results
...

Marta Karolyi will be pleased following another great performance by Team USA today at the Friendly International meet in Chemnitz, Germany. Team USA was dominant against both Germany and Romania winning the team competition by over twenty points. While USA's margin of victory was significant it is important to note that Romania did not bring its top athletes as Larisa Iordache and Diana Bulimar were competing at the 2013 Doha World Challenge Cup. In fact, Romania did not bring any senior elites to this meet.

This was another great meet for Kim Zmeskal-Burdette and Chris Burdette's athletes from Texas Dreams. The adorable Bailie Key, captured the all around title with ease in the junior competition. This was another beautiful performance from Key following her all around victory last week at the Jeselo Trophy Meet. Key started today's competition off with a nearly stuck double twisting yurchenko that set the tone for the rest of her competition. Key's performance put her final all around total three points ahead of Romania's Andreea Munteanu who finished with a 54.700, earning her a silver medal. Germany's Tabe Atl grabbed the bronze medal with a score of 53.950.

Junior All Around

  1. Bailie Key 58.00
  2. Andreea Munteanu 54.70
  3. Tabea Alt 53.95
  4. Andreea Iridon 52.30
  5. Florine Harder 51.35
  6. Maike Enderle 50.70
  7. Paula Tudorache 50.40
  8. Pauline Tratz 49.95
  9. Carina Kroll 49.50
  10. Diana Teodoru 47.75
  11. Amelia Hundley 13.450

2012 Olympic Champion, Kyla Ross, was victorious in the senior all around competition winning with a score of 59.30. We did not see an Amanar from Ross but her double twisting yurchenko earned her a 15.200. It was a terrific meet for Ross who began the season with a heel injury that forced her to withdraw from the American Cup.

American Simone Biles astounded the judges with her Amanar earning an incredible 9.6 in execution that resulted in highest mark of the competition scoring a 15.9. Simone Biles dominated the Jeselo Trophy meet last weekend winning  four gold medals. Her fall at today's competition on uneven bars resulted in a second place finish that tied her with American teammate Peyton Ernst of Texas Dreams.

This continues to be great start to the 2013 season for the Americans and Gymnastike looks forward to more great performances from Team USA.
