Get to know Mizzou sophomore Becca Schugel who had an incredible freshman season for the Tigers where she was a consistent contributor and won seven event titles on the year, including three in the all-around. Schugel posted career highs of 9.900 on vault and 9.875 on floor, and earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors after her strong performance at the SEC Championships.
FloGymnastics: How old were you when you started gymnastics and how did you get involved?
Becca Schugel: Two years old, born into a family of gymnasts
What is the history of gymnastics in your family?
My mother was a JO champion and my aunt owns a gym in Minnesota
What is the hardest thing about being in this sport?
I think the hardest thing about being in this sport is the time consumption. It takes up most of your life especially when you're little depending on how committed you choose to be. As gymnasts we don¹t grow up like most kids our age.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night owl
What is your perfect pizza?
Extra extra cheese with some stuffed crust
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?
Fiji to stay in a hut above the ocean
What is the last thing you bought?
Christmas presents for my family
Did you play any other sports growing up?
Yes, dance, track, diving, ice skating but soccer was my favorite
What is your first memory of doing gymnastics?
My first memory of competitive gymnastics was competing at my first level 5 meet immediately after turning 7. My coach took two of us to Shamrock Shake and I fell on my cartwheel on beam and was so mad at myself. I didnÂ’t talk to my coach until I stuck 20 more on the low beam. The both of us also had to be scratched from floor because we couldnÂ’t remember the choreography.
What do you like to eat before a competition?
Noodles and company night before, Subway the day of
What is your favorite movie?
Divergent
What is the most played song on your phone/iPod?

WhatÂ’s one food you just canÂ’t stand?
YOGURT
If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Lululemon leggings and a Lululemon long sleeve with probably a Lululemon headband
What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school is anything related to science - Biology, Physiology, Chemistry
What is your favorite season of the year and why?
Fall- leaves changing, football season, my birthday, halloween, Thanksgiving... the list goes on and on
What is your favorite day of the week?
Sunday
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas because there is SNOW, I get to spend time with my entire family mom's and dad's side, so much to do, christmas lights, ice skating, hot chocolate by the fire place
