We're continuing our series on the top all-arounders at 2016 J.O. Nationals by catching up with Senior B champion,

RACHAEL FLAM.

Undoubtedly, Flam has been one of the most dominant level 10 gymnasts in the nation this season. She took first place all-around at the Sand Dollar Invite, the Glider's Invite, the Charleston Cup, Texas State Championship, Region 3 regionals, and then closed out an incredible year with a 38.575 at Nationals to secure the Senior B title.

Flam topped our state of Texas rankings as well as our J.O. Nationals rankings based on her outstanding performances this year.

She also placed third all-around at the Nastia Cup, and is committed to Stanford for 2017-2018.

We caught up with Rachael to hear about her final meet of the year:

FloGymnastics: What was the highlight of the meet?
Finishing with a strong beam routine. I scored a 9.7 and earned third place in the event.

How did you feel when you finished the meet?
I was so excited! I knew I competed very well and had lots of family and friends in the stands cheering me on.

When did you find out that you won?
After I finished my beam routine, I went to give both of my coaches a hug. One of them told me I needed a 9.65 to win the meet, and a minute or so later, a 9.7 flashed on the scoreboard! It was such an incredible moment!

What upgrades are you excited to learn in the offseason?
I have been practicing a double layout on floor for a few years now, and hope to finally compete it next year. I also worked Tkachevs on bars last summer, which I hope to continue working this summer. I love learning new leaps on beam—a few I have been playing with are tour jete halfs and switch side halfs.

What are you looking forward to most about next year?
Competing with my Stars team and coaches for one last season. I have been at Stars Gymnastics for 14 years, and am so grateful for my coaches and teammates who have always been there for me. I can’t wait to give it my all next season!
