The 2013 British Championships concluded today with individual event finals. Below is the recap from British Gymnastics.
24/3/13: The final day of the Men’s and Women’s British Championships saw the women battle it out in their respective age groups to be crowned individual apparatus champions, and the men battle to be event Masters.
In the Senior women’s competition, 2013 all-around champion, Gabby Jupp continued to shine taking two more gold medals on both the floor and beam. She also took silver on the bars behind established gymnast, 2008 Olympian Becky Downie from Notts. Niamh Rippin also from Notts took the final title on the vault for the second year in a row.
The men’s Masters finals took place alongside the women’s apparatus finals. The men use their results from the all-around to crown apparatus champions within the age groups but the masters are where any of the gymnasts who competed in the Under 16, Under 18 or Senior categories are ranked together to find the top 8 gymnasts from across the board. The final eight for each piece then battle it out to be crowned the master of that apparatus.
Dan Keatings stole the show taking two gold medals on both the P bars and Pommel horse, edging out Olympic bronze medallist on this piece of apparatus, Max Whitlock. This didn’t make it a bad day for Max though as he won the High Bar title. Bury’s Theo Seager also stood out winning both the Rings and Vault Masters with Huntingdon’s Sam Oldham victorious on the Floor.

Women’s apparatus finals
Senior Vault
Fresh from her bronze medal winning performance in the all-around finals, Notts’ Niamh Rippin performed two great Vaults in the Women’s Senior Final, including a solid one and half twisting Yurchenko. This helped her to take the title for a second year in a row with an overall score of 13.800. Dynamo’s Kelly Simm powered down the runway to take second with 13.625 and there was a tie for third with Glasgow’s Amy Regan and Sapphire’s Eleanor Thompson with 13.525.
Senior Bars
Becky Downie went all-out for her only performance in the Finals, and performed some extremely difficulty skills in her Bar routine. Although she had a pause on the top bar half way through as she lost momentum, her high skill level was enough to crown her the champion. 2013 all-around Senior champion, Gabby Jupp, took the silver medal with a well-executed performance finishing with a strong full twisting double straight dismount to score 13.700. The Academy’s Ruby Harrold’s unique bar set put her on the podium too, despite a fall, showing her incredible depth of talent. She took the bronze with a score of 13.250.
Senior Beam
Confident Gabby Jupp from Sapphire took the Beam title with an outstanding score of 14.750. Hannah Whelan was back on form to take silver with 14.350 and Park Wrekin’s Georgina Hockenhull took third with a less difficult but clean routine for 13.350.
Senior Floor

Hot on her heels was South Durham’s Amy Tinkler who also performed a fantastic full twisting Yuchenko for her first vault that helped her take second with 13.750. Tyesha Mattis (East London) chose not to perform her double twisting Yurchenko in the final as she did in the all-around, opting instead for a clean Yurchenko straight and then a full twist. This paid off as she scored 13.300 to take the bronze.
Junior Bars
Amy Tinkler continued confidentially after her Vault silver and put in an almost flawless performance here, sticking her full twisting double back dismount to score 12.900 and take the title.
