Mustafina Wins All Around Title at European Championships Over Iordache
World and Olympic Champion Aliya Mustafina took the women's all around gold medal during the 2013 European Championships. It was an all around sweep for the Russians after David Belyavsky took the men's all around title earlier in the day. Mustafina rebounded from her rough performance in qualifications where she fell twice on beam. Romania's Larisa Iordache led the field following Thursday's qualification. Mustafina managed to stay on the beam during Friday's all around final, but it was a little bit rocky and scored a 14.400. Larisa Iordache, who scored a huge 15.500 at the Doja World Cup, put up a 14.833 this time out. Iordache increased her lead following floor exercise where she scored a 14.866 over Mustafina's 14.466. Mustafina's difficulty was limited by her heavily taped ankle.
Mustafina tore her ACL at the 2011 European Championships in Berlin while performing an Amanar on the vault. Mustafina is still not performing an Amanar, but stuck her double twisting yurchenko cold earning a 15.033 heading into her strongest event, uneven bars. The 2012 Olympic Champion on the uneven bars delivered a gorgeous routine that earned her a 15.133 and the 2013 European Championship all around title over Iordache. Mustafina's teammate Anastasia Grishina, took the bronze.
