Mikulak wins 2 More NCAA Titles as Men's Championships Conclude
The men's NCAA Gymnastics Championships concluded today with All Around and Team Champion Sam Mikulak of Michgan adding two more titles.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., April 21, 2013 – The 2013 Men’s NCAA Gymnastics Championships concluded today at Pennsylvania State University’s Recreation Hall with the crowning of individual event champions. 2012 Olympian Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./University of Michigan, added the parallel bars and high bar titles to his haul at the championships, one day after helping his team to the overall title and claiming the all-around crown.
Penn State’s Trevor Howard captured the floor exercise title, executing a stuck Arabian double layout mount. Finishing with a stuck dismount to the delight of his home crowd fans, Howard earned a 15.800 and the event title. Stanford University’s Eddie Penev, with a 15.550, and Mikulak, with a 15.450, finished second and third.
Michael Newburger of Ohio State University grabbed the pommel horse title with a 15.450, followed by the University of Minnesota’s Ellis Mannon, 14.900, and Stanford’s John Martin, 14.775.
On the still rings, the University of Oklahoma’s Michael Squires stuck his full-twisting double layout and earned a 15.775 to grab the title. The College of William and Mary’s Landon Funiciello and Penn State’s Scott Rosenthal posted scores of 15.675 and 15.400 to finish second and third, respectively.
The University of Illinois’ Fred Hartville launched a Yurchenko two-and-a-half, sticking the landing to earn a 15.425 and the NCAA title. Oklahoma’s Alec Robin was second with 15.325, while William and Mary’s Neal Courter was third, 15.275.
Mikulak posted a 15.500 to win the parallel bars title, followed by teammate Syque Caesar with a 15.450. The University of Nebraska’s Sam Chamberlain was third, scoring 14.925.
On the high bar, Mikulak successfully defended his title from last year, winning by more than a 1.000 margin. His 16.100 score, the highest score of the entire championships, came after sticking his layout double-double dismount. Illinois’ Austin Phillips posted a 14.950 to finish second, while Caesar finished third, 14.925.
