LSU came away with a win on the road scoring a 195.825 to NC State’s 193.625. LSU also swept individual titles as Ashleigh Gnat won the all-around with a 38.975, Sydney Ewing won vault with a 9.925, Sarah Finnegan won bars with a 9.95, and Erin Macadaeg won beam with a 9.875 and floor with a 9.95.
LSU was on fire out of the gates, posting a 49.425 on vault, their first rotation. Ewing had a gorgeous Yurchenko 1.5 and Gnat anchored with a sky high Yurchenko double full. All six gymnasts scored a 9.8 or higher and the lowest score they had to count was a 9.85.
The Tigers continued their momentum on bars and after a fall from second up Jessica Savona, the team got back on track quickly and finished with a big 49.35, the highest bar score of any team this season. Finnegan anchored with a beautiful toe-on Tkatchev and a stuck double layout.
Beam proved to be a struggle for LSU as they had three falls and ended up counting a 9.3 and a 9.4. The high of the rotation came from leadoff Macadaeg who earned a 9.875. Another highlight was Finnegan’s graceful and elegant routine including her signature triple wolf turn.
LSU ended on floor, a rotation with many ups and downs. The team had two falls but also had two 9.9s from Gnat and Randii Wyrick, and a 9.95 from anchor Macadaeg in her first career floor routine. Wyrick stole the show in front of her home crowd with an exciting and eye catching floor routine that opened with a big tuck full in.
NC State also posted a solid road score but had their struggles as well. The Wolfpack started on bars where they totaled a 48.425. They hit every routine but weren’t able to score above a 9.75 after missing handstands and small struggles throughout.
On vault, NC State counted five solid Yurchenko fulls and posted a 48.825. Freshman Maggie Tamburro was put in the lineup last minute and came through with a big stuck vault to score a 9.8.
NC State moved to floor in the third rotation where they had some impressive skills but trouble on a few landings. Brittni Watkins performed a beautiful full in but struggled on her second pass and earned a 9.775.
In the final rotation, the Wolfpack moved to beam where they finished strong without any falls. Leadoff competitor Chelsea Knight posted the rotation high of a 9.775 with a confident and strong routine finished off with a nearly stuck round off 1.5 dismount.
