The Oklahoma Sooners broke a 197 in their second meet of the year to win over the California Golden Bears and the TWU Pioneers. In their first home meet of the year the Sooners scored a 197.125. No. 11 Cal scored a 194.225 and TWU a 188.250
The Sooners started off their meet on vault junior AJ Jackson and senior Haley Scaman both shined on vault, they competed a yurchenko full and a half and both scored 9.9s. Freshman Alex Marks also made her debut collegiate routine with a yurchenko full that scored a 9.775.
The Golden Bears started their meet on bars where they had a view mistakes and had to count a fall. Sophomore Toni-Ann Williams had the highest score on bars for Cal, she scored a 9.8.
The Pioneers started their meet on beam where they had a domino effect of falls. Despite having three falls on beam, sophomore Alyssa Kelly and junior Katie Simpson both scored 9.7s on beam, the two highest scores for TWU on that event.
In the second rotation the Sooners had two gymnasts score a 9.925. Juniors Chayse Capps and McKenzie Wofford both earned the score of 9.925 to take first on bars. This was Capps second time to ever compete bars in her collegiate career. Freshman Nicole Lehrmann also scored a 9.9, and improvement from her 9.2 bar routine at LSU.
Cal started off their beam rotation with their first two gymnast falling. They finished their beam strong by the last 4 gymnast staying on the beam. Juniors Jessica Howe and Desiree Palomares both scored a 9.825 for the Golden Bears.
The Pioneers went to floor and still were having a shaky meet. Their highest score was from sophomore Schyler Jones who scored a 9.6.
In the third rotation the Sooners had multiple scores of 9.875, but their highest score of a 9.925 came from junior Kara Lovan. Lovan executed grace and stuck her gainer full dismount to earn that high score.
Cal on floor broke a 49 as a team. Their highest score came from Williams were she displayed huge tumbling. She started her routine with a double layout and ended her routine with a full-in. Her tumbling earned her a score of 9.9
TWU had their best event of the night on vault. They did not have to count any falls to their team score. Their highest score came from Jones who scored a 9.7 for her yurchenko half.
In the final rotation of the night, the Sooners did not have the floor rotation they were hoping for. Even though a gymnast fell and one went out of bounds the Sooners were still able to earn scores of a 9.9 or higher. Jackson won floor with a 9.925 and Scaman scored a 9.9.
Cal ended on vault were they had no falls but their landings were weak. Their highest score came from freshman Sylvie Seilnacht who scored a 9.825 for her yurchenko half.
The Sooners will be on the road sunday competing against Arkansas and TWU will also compete on sunday against Arizona. California competes January 24 against San Jose State and Stanford.
