Undoubtedly, the most shocking elimination of "Dancing with the Stars" season 24 came Monday night when Simone Biles and her partner Sasha Farber were sent home. The couple was a top contender for the Mirror Ball Trophy throughout the season, consistently delivering strong performances and receiving vast numbers of fan votes.
Many people didn't expect to see #TeamGoldenGiggles get the boot in the semifinals, especially after two perfectly scored dances. The four judges had just given the duo two perfect 40s for both its jive and its rumba when the journey abruptly ended. Biles joked in an interview on GMA:
So with two perfect scores on their dances, it was the fan votes that held Simone and Sasha back from the finals. But why?
Last week, Biles drew quite a bit of media attention for her response to host Tom Bergeron, who told her:
"I was waiting for you to smile at some of the compliments -- you didn't."
Biles answered:
Although many outlets praised her for it, it's possible that the comment wasn't universally embraced. The four-time Olympic gold medalist has cemented herself in history as an incredibly successful gymnast -- the greatest of all time. She is happy and bubbly but has also proven that she is a strong, powerful woman with a voice.
Despite the shocking elimination, Biles had a great run on the show -- gaining maturity, lifelong friends, and the impressive ability to dance in heels.
Nonetheless, we will be left wondering why Team Golden Giggles didn't get the chance to dance for the Mirror Ball Trophy next week. What do you think?
