Gymnastics Brazil has confirmed that Rebeca Andrade will not compete at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal due to an ACL injury suffered during warm-ups for podium training. Andrade was set to compete in the all-around alongside teammate Thais Fidelis, and submitted an original skill to the FIG Technical committee in hopes of having the skill named after her at the competition.
Andrade qualified to the 2016 Rio Olympics all-around final, finishing 11th, and was coming into worlds as a top contender in the all-around. She will stay in Canada until the end of the competition to begin treatment on her knee and receive medical follow-up.

The athlete Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade, during the warm-up for the podium training of the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship, suffered a right knee sprain at the jump. The athlete was evaluated by the doctor of the Brazilian national team, dr. Breno Schor, who accompanied the team to Canada, and subsequently underwent magnetic resonance imaging, which confirmed the anterior cruciate ligament injury. The athlete has already begun intensive treatment with physical therapy.
The gymnast was re-evaluated and the medical committee in agreement with the technical committee decided that the athlete is not able to compete at this time. Rebeca stays in the delegation until the end of the competition for physiotherapeutic treatment and medical follow-up.
