Florida freshman Bridget Sloan has secured another major all around title in winning the 2013 NCAA Gymnastics All Around today in Los Angeles. Sloan competed in the first of two sessions, posting a 39.60 to edge out LSU's Rheagan Courville after the two tied for the SEC All Around title.
Sloan was the 2009 U.S. National All Around Champion, 2009 World All Around Champion, and a 2008 Olympic Silver medalist with Team USA while competing for Sharp's Gymnastics in Indiana under coach Marvin Sharp.
Sloan had to withdraw from the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials due to injury, but has made an immediate imapact on the University of Florida team since arriving to Gainesville in the fall.
Defending Champion Kytra Hunter of Florida finished in 7th. UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa was another favorite for the all around title. She was absolutely in the hunt until stumbling on her final skill of the day, her uneven bars dismount. Zamarripa did earn the prestigious AAI Senior Award during the Friday night banquet.
The was a four way tie for thrid place with inidividual competitor and Big 10 All Around Champion Emily Wong of Nebraksa, Florida senior Marissa King, and Michgan's Katie Zurales and Joanna Sampson.
Check out Bridget's near-perfect bar routine during podium training:

Important Information:
Vault event finals will be run a little differently this year. Since there are 24 finalists, each gymnast will only perform ONE vault and the 6 judges scores will be averaged for their final score. This is ONLY for vault! Every other event will run the same as usual: drop the high and low and average the middle.

In the final day of competition at the 2013 NCAA women's Gymnastics Championship, we'll see individual athetes vying for national titles. Below are the draws for each of the four event finals.
Competition is set to begin at 1pm PST.
Vanessa Zamaripa of UCLA is ranked #1 on vault and won the NCAA Vault title in 2011. She had an uncharacteristic fall on vault during last night's Super Six, so she will be looking for redemption today in her final competition as a Bruin.
Georgia's Chelsea Davis has been ranked #1 for most of the year. She'll look to bring the bar title back to Georgia as Kat Ding won last year. She'll face tough competition from All Around Champion Bridget Sloan who edged Davis for the #1 ranking in the most recent polls.
Oklahoma's Taylor Spears is ranked #1 on beam be unfortunately we will not see her in today's finals. It's anyone's game. Danusia Francis of UCLA has a beautiful routine that is not to miss!
Florida's Marissa King helped Florida to the NCAA Championships yesterday on her birthday. Can she win another title today? She opens with a perfect double layout and has high scoring potential. LSU's Lloimincia Hall and Michigan's Joanna Sampson are currently tied for #1 on the event. However, Hall did not advance to finals, which is a shame.

Florida Wins 2013 NCAA Title in Dramatic Fashion
FLORIDA WINS THE NCAA TITLE
....even with two falls on beam and one on floor!!!
2013 Super Six RECAP
What an INTENSE Super Sixcompetition! The University of Florida has made history by becoming the fifth school to win the NCAA women's gymnastics National title!
Obviously, Florida ended up on top, but their rough start on beam closed a gap and opened the door for other teams. Senior Ashanée Dickerson and Sophomore Kytra Hunter both had very uncharacteristic falls during their back handspring layout series. The Gators were forced to count a fall and started with the lowest rotation score of the meet, 48.875.
UCLA was in the lead after rotation 1 scoring a huge 49.375 on bars, and continued to lead after the second. However, the Bruins score was only 0.3 higher than Georgia. Alabama came out with a bang for their first event hitting floor routine after floor routine for an incredible 49.50.
Everyone was shocked about Florida’s falls, so we began to run the numbers to see if they still had a chance at winning. The Gators won prelims by 0.40 and a fall is worth 0.50, so if they wanted to win they needed to have the meet of their lives on every event from then on, and have some help from the other teams.
Florida absolutely crushed floor scoring a gargantuan 49.750! Jamie Shisler replaced Kiersten Wang in the lineup after she fell on her neck during prelims. However, Shisler fell as well, and she was Florida’s starter.
After a total of three falls, it appeared that Florida was crumbling and the title was slipping away. But the Gators didn’t let it faze them one bit! They powered through with every gymnast scoring above a 9.90.
At the half Alabama was leading the pack with a 98.75. Florida miraculously shot from last to SECOND, with a 98.60, and OU was only 0.10.
During rotation 4 Oklahoma was on their best event, balance beam, and had the chance to get ahead of Florida. During prelims not a single OU gymnast stuck a beam dismount, which cost them 0.50. If every Sooner stuck their dismount they would have potentially surpassed the Gators prelim gap of 0.40.
This means, with Florida’s falls on beam, if OU stuck their dismounts they could easily have pushed ahead. Oklahoma did stuck several beam dismounts, but not enough to scrape ahead.
After the fourth rotation Oklahoma sat in third with a 147.975, and surprisingly, UCLA was in second beating OU by only 0.025. Florida used its incredible vault rotation of 49.50 to go to the top of the leader board with a 148.100.
UCLA’s ended the night on vault, the same event they went lights out during prelims. Sadly, they did not perform the same way during the Super Six. UCLA star, Vanessa Zamarripa, had a very surprising fall after her hands just grazed the table resulting in almost no block. The bruins left the arena in tears because they knew they were in the hunt for the title. UCLA only missed the title by .475.
Alabama was not ready to give up the fight, and put up three 9.90’s on bars to push ahead of Florida by 0.025 going into the final rotation.
You could feel the tension in the air by the final rotation, and the fans in the arena were going nuts! Everyone knew it would come down to the final event to decide the National Champion.
OU performed very solidly on floor, with two 9.9’s, but it just wasn’t enough to take first.
Alabama was able to beat Florida in the 2012 NCAA’s on beam by 0.075, and the Tide was ending this competition on the beam yet again. Kayla Williams almost fell on her punch front and had several other balance checks costing the Tide a 9.625. If Alabama had one more mistake Florida could capitalize. And that’s exactly what happened.
Alabama’s Sarah DeMeo fell on beam forcing Alabama to count a low 9.625, allowing Florida the opportunity of a lifetime. The Gators swung their hearts out on bars dropping only a 9.850. Alaina Johnson anchored for Florida with a 9.950 sealing the Gators fate, and winning the National Championship title!
This is Florida’s first National Championship win and Coach Rhonda Faehn couldn’t be more proud of her team. After defying the adversity Florida has made history and will forever be the 2013 National Champions!!!
