2015 City of Jesolo Trophy - Event Finals
The U.S. continued its usual dominance of the City of Jesolo Trophy by sweeping the event finals. For the seniors, Simone Biles won vault, beam and floor while Kyla Ross won bars. For the juniors, Jazmyn Foberg won vault, Laurie Hernandez won bars and floor and Norah Flatley won beam, her signature event.

In the final day of competition at the 2015 Jesolo Trophy, the US would continue their dominate streak winning every event title. On the vault, senior Simone Biles took first with a 15.25 (15.9 / 15.15) stunning the judges with both her Amanar and Lopez vaults. For the juniors, Jazmyn Foberg contributed a strong yurchenko double twist earning her a 14.60 (14.9 / 14.3) average between her two vaults and securing the win. Ragan Smith placed third wih a solid 14.35 (14.5 / 14.2)

On bars, Kyla Ross's newly upgraded routine paid off as she earned a 15.25. Teammate Bailie Key landed in second with a 15.15. Lauren Hernandez continued to display strong routines receiving the first place medal with a 14.50. Norah Flatley was not far behind finishing second with a 14.25.

Biles turned out an easy win on the balance beam with a 15.25, while fellow American Alyssa Baumann displayed beautiful lines and artistry that was enough to give her the silver with a 14.55. Flatley lived up to her reputation of delivering consistent performances. She took first on the beam with a 14.95. Coming just behind was Victoria Nguyen. Nguyen struggled to connect her handspring - layout - layout series, but composed herself to garner a still impressive 14.45 and the silver medal.

In perhaps the most anticipated event final of the competition, Hernandez grabbed gold on the floor (14.65), while Smith earned second with a 14.25. Both gymnasts executed routines with the highest degrees of difficulty of the junior final. For the seniors, Biles again came out on top commanding the crowd with her routine that received a 16.05. Erika Fasana played to the home crowd, delighting them with a high-flying routine that earned a 14.9 and second place. Taking the bronze slot was Aly Raisman (14.85). A step out of bounds cost Raisman, but her captivating routine had the arena spellbound nonethless.

The first meet of the 2015 elite season is now officially in the books, but these athletes hope to carry their winning momentum with them throughout the competition year. With some big titles now secure under their belts, it is with great optimism that we say the best is still yet to come.

Results: USA Seniors Secure Gold
...

After a thrilling round of competition at the Para Arrex in Jesolo, Italy, the US seniors walk away with the gold sports a 241.3 team score. The Italians placed second with a 224.35 while the Canadians landed in third with a 221.75.

In the all around competition, Simone Biles continued her dominating streak taking the gold with an impressive 62.1. The race for second was a close one with Bailie Key finally taking the post with a 59.5. Aly Raisman provided an inspiring performance taking third with a 59.1.

It would be a disservice to call the atmosphere of the Senior Team Final anything but electric. The crowd, the judges, the athletes, all waited with bated breath to see just what level the competition could bring. For the American team, it would be a test especially for newly reinstated National Team members Gabby Douglas and Raisman, who made their return to competition after nearly two years away. If there were nerves, though, it was hard to tell. The US passed all marks with flying colors.

With a 241.3, the US team easily took the first place spot. Biles won the all around title with a vault that made everyone in the stands take notice. It would be Raisman’s floor routine opening with a double arabian punch layout, though, that brought the fans to their feet. It was a meet filled with highlights, from Alyssa Baumann giving a stand out performance on the beam securing a spot in the Event Finals to Kyla Ross debuting her highly upgraded bar routine that advances her to the finals with the second highest score behind Biles. The American victory was truly a team effort, though, as newcomers like Megan Skaggs and established competitors like Maddie Desch rose to the challenge that is the international elite level.

The beloved Italian team earned the silver trophy with a 224.35. Erika Fasana displayed a commanding performance on the floor exercise and her efforts throughout the night were enough to place her sixth all around (the highest non-American finish). And nabbing the bronze were the Canadian seniors with Isabela Onyshko leading the charge. Onyshko can move on to the uneven bars, beam, and floor final.

Landing in fourth is the Australian team with a 171.1. The Australian team continues to build with many openings for expected upgrades. Emma Nedov provided their team with the routine of the evening after ranking third on the balance beam. Nedov qualified to Sunday’s Event Final.

The hum of tonight’s meet continues to linger in the air as the teams begin to switch their attention to Event Final that will occur Sunday, March 29. Once again the arena sighs a breath as it waits for the jolt of competition to begin again.
