Simone Biles will be competing at the 2016 Pacific Rim Championships held in Everett, Washington from April 8-10. This competition will be her much-anticipated 2016 debut.
She noted in a conference call today that she is going to “lay it all out” at this meet with a new floor routine and an upgraded second vault of a Cheng.
While Biles is clearly a favorite for the Olympic team—and beyond that, for Olympic gold—she knows that “every competition counts” and she needs to prove herself each time she steps into the spotlight.
Training Camp at the Ranch begins this Thursday—at which the full U.S. women’s Pacific Rims team will be chosen. See the full international roster here and the U.S. men's team here.
Seeing Biles’ new floor routine will surely be one of the most exciting moments of the competition. She explained it as a Samba/Brazilian theme and she is using some music from the movie Rio. Biles is particularly looking forward to seeing the crowd’s reaction to her new routine.
Biles said she has treated this year like it’s a Worlds year, focusing her energy on each competition before the grand finale at the end of the year—starting with Pac Rims. She is feeling very confident both mentally and physically heading into next weekend.
