Big Ten Weekly Notebook: Lucky 9.95
The theme for this weekend was 9.95 as many Big Ten athletes snagged some near-perfect scores.
I’m back. Here we go, Big Ten Weekly Update, Part 6.
The theme for this weekend was 9.95 as many Big Ten athletes snagged some near-perfect scores. And it’s only Week 4??? Exciting stuff ahead...
Perfection and redemption for Lexy Ramler
Still hyped over Lexy Ramler’s Week 3 perfect 10 on beam? Well, get even more hype ’cause she did it again! Two perfect 10s in a row for Ramler in her junior season on balance beam! Talk about impressive. Ramler received her first ever perfect 10 at home this past weekend, while also counting her first fall ever in her collegiate career on floor. She will look to put the slip up in the past this coming weekend. But, in my opinion, the fact that her first fall in her entire career came in her junior year is extremely impressive in itself.
BACK. TO. BACK.

Wojcik, Brooks — from one freshman phenom to another
Michigan was flying high this weekend in its annual Flip for Chip meet honoring former Michigan gymnast Cailee Hills’ father Chip. In a successful home meet, sophomore standout Natalie Wojcik debuted her new Delchev on bars, and, boy, it was massive! She also had an absolutely superb meet, sweeping all four event titles. Specifically noteworthy is her beautiful 9.95 on beam and a 39.625 for the all-around title. Very impressive.
Wocjik wasn’t the only star all-arounder this weekend. From one freshman phenom to another, Sierra Brooks was gorgeous this weekend, finishing with an impressive 39.375 all-around finish for the freshman.
As a team, Michigan hit 197 for the first time this season.
Watch this release move by Natalie!! She finishes us off with a 9.875 to tie Gabby and Abby Heiskell for the event title. #GoBlue pic.twitter.com/AakuLmAaX5

Megan Verceles Carr shows the beam who is BOSS
Remember last week when I said Nebraska had some slip ups on beam? Not this week! Megan Verceles Carr was exquisite on beam over the weekend, posting a 9.95 on the event and garnering the Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week award.
Nebraska also hit 197 for the first time this season, the same weekend Michigan did. And how perfect as these two teams will battle it out this Thursday in Lincoln. Big meet to watch!

Flying High for the Buckeyes
The Buckeyes were notching career-high after career-high this past weekend at home versus Big Ten rival Maryland. Jenna Swartzentruber scored a 9.925 on bars, Sydney Jennings a 9.9 on vault and Alexis Hankins a 9.9 on beam — all career-highs! Something was in the air over in Columbus this weekend…
Dominating floor work by the Spartans
Speaking of career highs, the Spartans had some team milestones of their own this past weekend, scoring their fifth-best (!) team score in program history and tying their program-best floor score of a 49.475! Excellent work, ladies!

Bridgens, Penn State come out on top
Lauren Bridgens came out on top in the all-around and on floor on Saturday against Iowa at home. Bridgens finished her meet with a 9.95 career-best on floor to bring her to a 39.4 all-around score. Watch this routine — I mean, that layout step out though!
Penn State also had a great meet cumulatively as a team, ending with a 196.275.

Maryland shows state pride
The Terps may not have had the weekend they wanted, falling just a few tenths short to Ohio State, but they showed their spirit with a STUNNING new leotard that incorporates the design of the Maryland flag. Check it out below.

Illinois led by two beam queens
The Illini were led this weekend by outstanding beam performances from Shayla Scott and Mia Takekawa, both going 9.875 at the end of the lineup. That is the consistency and scoring potential the Illini are looking to rely on this season.

Record-breaking Rutgers
We saw a lot of career-best scores this weekend, but only one team produced a score that broke a school record, and that was senior Erin McLachlan on beam with a 9.95! And, not to mention, the Scarlet Knights ended with their second-highest beam score in school history!
