Rebecca Downie was a competitor for Great Britain at the recent 2014 World Championships, where she contributed very solid routines on bars and beam, helping her team qualify to the team final in fourth place- the highest qualification placing that the women of Great Britain have had at a World Championship. Individually, Downie secured a position in the uneven bars final, an event that she is a true master of. Downie expressed to Gymnastike her World Championship insight and experience, giving exclusive information on her time in Nanning.

The gymnasts and teams lived up to the hype this year with much anticipation as this was the first team World Championships since the Olympic Games in 2012. The women's event finals saw the 2008 Olympic Vault Champion, Un Jung Hong, from the People's Republic of Korea win the gold on vault just slightly ahead of USA's Simone Biles. On the uneven bars, China's Yao Jinnan fought for the gold ahead of teammate Huang Huidan and Daria Spiridonova from Russia.

On day one of the men's individual event finals Olympic floor bronze medalist, Denis Abliazin, from Russia won his first world gold medal on the floor exercise. Olympic Pommel Champion, Krisztian Berki, took the title on the pommel horse, and China's Liu Yang took the gold on still rings.
The 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China continued today with day one of event finals. The men competed on floor, pommel, and rings and tomorrow they will compete on vault, parallel bars, and high bar.
